iTunes App Round Up Part 1

I have an iPod touch. But its getting to the point where I have hardly any songs and plenty of apps, here is a round up of some of them.

Fruit Ninja
Price: $1.19
This game is entirely about slicing pieces of fruit that are thrown up at you. There are three modes: Classic, where you have three lives and you lose a life every time you 'drop' a piece of fruit. However you gain a life for every 100 pieces of fruit you slice. There are also bombs that when you slice, you lose instantly
Zen Mode: You have 90 seconds to slice as many pieces of fruit as you can, no bombs, no lives.
Arcade Mode: You have 60 seconds to slice as many pieces of fruit as you can, there are bombs, but they only take 10 points from your total score. The main objective of this mode is to slice the 'special bananas' that give you powerups.
This is an amazing casual game, however I find slicing fruit a bit tedious after a while.
7.5/10

Infinity Blade
Price: 7.99
Created by Epic Games of Gears Of War fame, Infinity Blade brings epic monsters, gear collection and stunning visuals. However, it also brings repetitiveness and the remarkable ability to drain my iPod battery in about an hour and a half. The basis is that you play through a castle, fighting various monsters as you go. When you get to the final boss. You cannot defeat him on your first play through. He kills you and you have to start at the beginning of the castle, you play through the game about 4 more times until finally you beat him. This game is repetitive and annoying, and the price is just a deal breaker for me.
4/10

One Single Life
Price: Free
This game is epic, despite being amazingly simple. You have one single life, when you die, you have to download it again to try again. You touch the screen once to run, and again to jump over large gaps. Its very pressure-inducing and terrifying the first time you play through.
8.5/10

Red Dead: Redemption Review and Welcome

Why hello everyone. If you are reading this blog (which you are) you must have found your way here somehow, telling me how would be great since I still haven't figured out how to move around this site with ease.
So, I am FrankTheChicken. Sometimes referred to as Frank (that's not my real name) or FTC. Gaming is my passion, I like to play games, read about games and basically immerse myself into the industry as much as I possibly can. This blog is designed to show you my point of view of the industry and hopefully give you an insight into the mind of the Australian gamer. It will not be entirely made up of reviews but I can imagine they will form the bulk of content on here. So with the introductions somewhat complete, lets launch into the first review ever. for FTCG (FrankTheChickenGAMING).

Red Dead: Redemption
Publisher: Rockstar Games
Developer: Rockstar San Dieago
Platform: PS3, Xbox 360
Reviewed On: Xbox 360

Red Dead: Redemption won most if not all of the GOTY awards last year, (2010) and it definitely lives up to expectations. It is set in the year 1911, a few years before the outbreak of World War One just as the wild west is drawing to a close. You play as John Marston, a former outlaw who is trying to turn into a good person and redeem himself somewhat. To do this, he tries to hunt down his former gang members. That's all of the story I will give away since there is so much epic story to give away here, as you would expect from the Rockstar Games. The influence from GTA is obvious, but not to the point where it just feels like a copy and paste of GTA IV with a western coat of paint. But it feels somehow comforting when you realise that you press 'Y' to get on your horse, and when you hit someone with your horse (I see a recurring theme here) the RAGE engine kicks in and looks absolutely amazing.

The combat in this game is awesome, the weapons pack a huge punch and the enemies take the shots and react accordingly in an amazing way. They will limp or crawl if they get hit in the leg and try to run away if they know they're outnumbered. The cover system is average, yes its great that you can take cover behind absolutely everything, but the dash to cover needs a longer range. There is a sysem they have in place called 'Dead-Eye', its basically a cross between Splinter Cell: Conviction's 'Mark and Execute' and bullet time.

The most amazing thing about this game is how huge the world is, and somehow they managed to fill it up with interesting things to do, you can hunt, rescue civilians from outlaws and on the rare occasion, a group of outlaws will ride into town, firing their guns into the air and dragging civilians behind them. It is so satisfying to take them all out and then get rewarded for it.

In Red Dead, you have Honor points, which will rise and fall depending on what you do in the game, you also have Fame points, which will only go up with every notable thing you do. The best thing is that people will react to you accordingly, they will avoid you if your honor meter is low, and greet you warmly if it is high.

There is just so much to say about this game. I have probably missed heaps of things that make this game great, but if comes down to the final score.
I give Red Dead: Redemption 9.7/10
A must-buy

Now I'm going to drink my cup of tea, and go finish Medal Of Honor.
The review for that may be coming very soon.
Thanks for reading
